A Note from the Author
I'm not an academic, and this isn't an academic project. It's the result of more than ten years of reading, thinking, writing things down, changing my mind, and trying to make sense of questions that wouldn't leave me alone.
Eventually, I decided to put some of that work into a form other people could read.
The texts on this website explore ideas about human nature, meaning, belief, culture, and the systems that shape our lives. They connect subjects that don't always get discussed together, sometimes arrive at unconventional conclusions, and occasionally get things wrong. I think the questions are worth asking, and the ideas are worth examining. That's why they're here.
I'm not asking you to agree with me. Read what interests you, question what doesn't convince you, and make up your own mind. I've put serious work into these texts, but I'm aware that thinking hard about something doesn't guarantee you've understood it correctly. If anything, the longer you spend developing an idea, the easier it becomes to mistake familiarity with it for proof that you're right.
A note on AI: I have used AI tools to assist with research, editing, and preparing the manuscripts for publication. I don't have a team of researchers or professional editors, and I wanted to make years of accumulated work readable and accessible. AI has helped me do that. It has also made mistakes, which is why the responsibility for what gets published remains mine. I'm not going to conceal the tools I've used, or pretend that using them settles the question of whether the work is any good.
Why publish any of this? Because I think we could use more perspectives on how people make sense of the world, how beliefs and institutions shape our lives, and how easily we can mistake the stories we're given for the whole truth. We live among increasingly sophisticated systems competing for our attention, influencing our choices, and extracting value from our behaviour. I want to understand how those systems work, what they do to us, and what we might be missing.
I don't have a master key to any of this. I have questions, arguments, and a growing body of work that attempts to make some of them clearer. You may find something useful here. You may disagree with half of it. Both are perfectly acceptable outcomes.
I'm the person behind these texts: curious, opinionated, fallible, and still trying to figure things out. I'd rather discover that I've got something wrong than spend the rest of my life defending it.
Take a look around. See what you think.
